The Arrival of Spring in Woldgate, 17 April, 2011 portrays a light beige country lane with either side of the road being flanked by grassy patches with varying tones of green - between the green and the road is pop's of pink. Another feature which is present on 17 April is the architectural wall, which is also a feature in other works from the series. Overhead, trees in the foreground are spindling, moving further back into the image, the shrubs are more dense, showing they are springing to life. The background of the sky is light lilac and contrasts with the bright greens.

Beyond its artistic importance, The Arrival of Spring series was structured in a way that strengthened both its visual presence and market appeal. A selection of works shown at the Royal Academy in 2012 was later released as editioned prints in two formats, a substantial regular size and a more limited large format. This approach gave collectors a choice between impactful but practical works and rarer statement pieces, while the carefully controlled edition sizes maintained a balance between accessibility and exclusivity. To read more about why the series has been so successful, you can do so in our Arrival of Spring market analysis.
