The Arrival of Spring in Woldgate, East Yorkshire, 11 May 2011 is an iPad drawing by David Hockney from his Arrival of Spring in Woldgate series. The work depicts a narrow country road following rainfall, its surface darkened and reflective as it cuts through dense spring growth. Saturated greens dominate the surrounding foliage, punctuated by pink and mauve tones along the roadway. A small brick structure appears at the edge of the scene, a recurring architectural element within the series that anchors the composition within the rural setting of Woldgate.

In October 2025, the 11 May was included in a significant group offering of Arrival of Spring in Woldgate at Sotheby's in London. The sale proved pivotal for the series, with results across multiple dates surpassing expectations and contributing to renewed momentum in both public and private markets. Further details on this sale and its wider impact can be found in our Sotheby’s auction analysis.

    - David Hockney
David Hockney began working extensively with the iPad in 2010, first developing the medium through The Yosemite Suite. He later expanded its use across the Arrival of Spring in Woldgate series and selected works from 20 Flowers and Some Bigger Pictures and My Normandy. The portability of the iPad allowed Hockney to work with greater freedom, enabling him to draw directly from observation without the practical limitations of traditional painting materials.
