The Arrival of Spring in Woldgate, East Yorkshire, 30 May 2011 presents the Yorkshire landscape at its most established point in the seasonal cycle, with dense vegetation and saturated colour dominating the composition. A soft mauve-toned track runs through the centre of the image, bordered by thick green growth that fills the foreground and edges of the scene. Above, leafy branches extend into a clear pale-blue sky, while a roadside sign to the left is partially framed by flowering cow parsley, anchoring the view within a familiar rural setting.

Following the strong results achieved by a group of Arrival of Spring in Woldgate works at Sotheby's in October 2025, attention turned to whether demand for the series would be sustained. When The Arrival of Spring in Woldgate, 30 May 2011 was offered the following month alongside a further group of works, all once again exceeded their high estimates. These results reinforced confidence in the series and confirmed that the earlier sale marked the beginning of a broader market shift rather than a singular moment.

    - David Hockney
Across the Arrival of Spring in Woldgate series, recurring rural details help anchor the works within a single English setting. By returning to the same viewpoint across different dates, David Hockney focuses on change through time rather than shifts in location, a method that distinguishes the series from iPad works such as 20 Flowers and Some Bigger Pictures and The Yosemite Suite, where variation is driven by subject and place.
