    Yayoi Kusama’s Waves (1) (1998) is a screenprint measuring 33 × 27 cm, produced in an edition of 30. The work distils one of Kusama’s most enduring visual ideas, the infinite rhythm of natural and abstract forms,  into a compact and intimate format. Executed with bold graphic lines, the composition echoes the flowing motion of water, transformed through her obsessive approach into a hypnotic field of pattern.
     
    In this print, waves are no longer fleeting impressions of the sea but become symbols of infinity and repetition. By stylising their form, Kusama merges nature with abstraction, blurring the line between the real and the imagined.
