Yayoi Kusama’s Dancing Pumpkin (1993) is a colour silkscreen on Arches wove paper, measuring 49.9 × 72.4 cm (image) and 60.6 × 82.7 cm (sheet). Produced in an edition of 120, this impression is numbered 92/120, signed in pencil by the artist at the lower right, titled in Japanese at the lower centre, and dated 1993. The print exemplifies Kusama’s most celebrated motif, the pumpkin, rendered here with a sense of rhythm and vitality that brings the form to life.

In Dancing Pumpkin, the dotted surface of the fruit appears animated, as though swaying or moving across the picture plane. Kusama transforms the pumpkin into a dynamic character, blending whimsy with her deeper themes of repetition, obsession, and infinity. The composition captures both her personal attachment to the motif, rooted in childhood memory, and its broader symbolic resonance as a vessel of endurance and imaginative play.
