MARKET UPDATE: 2026
"I had always planned to make a large painting of the early spring... but the arrival of spring can't be done in one picture."
The market for David Hockney’s Arrival of Spring in Woldgate has undergone a significant shift following a series of landmark single-owner sales at Sotheby's in late 2025 through to March 2026. What initially appeared to be a potential oversupply event has instead strengthened demand, reset pricing benchmarks, and reinforced the series’ position as one of the most important contemporary print bodies in the market. For a full breakdown of the Sotheby's sales, pricing data, and what this means for collectors, read the full Arrival of Spring 2026 market shift article here → -

The Sotheby’s Arrival of Spring sale was set during London’s Frieze Art Fair week. In the lead-up, the auction house secured features in major publications as well as through a high-budget social media campaign. As the news broke, word of mouth quickly spread and details of the sale circulated widely. Ultimately, the timing worked in Sotheby’s favour: the Hockney market already had strong momentum, and Sotheby’s effective marketing drove the intense competition seen on the day.
