The Arrival of Spring in Woldgate, East Yorkshire, 1 January 2011 is a David Hockney iPad drawing from the regular-size edition of 25 in his landmark Arrival of Spring in Woldgate series. The composition presents a winding country lane framed by bare winter trees and dense hedgerows, with a pale lavender path cutting through muted greens and earthy browns, opening into cooler blue tones ahead.

Created in East Yorkshire in 2011, this work captures the earliest moment in the series, when winter still dominates the landscape but subtle shifts in light and colour signal the season’s impending change. Using the iPad as his primary tool, Hockney combines gestural line with layered colour to reimagine the British landscape tradition through a contemporary digital medium.
