Although Roy Lichtenstein had explored still life imagery in early Pop works such as Turkey, 1961 and Sandwich and Soda, he developed the subject more formally in the early to mid-1970s through what is now commonly referred to as the Roy Lichtenstein's Still Life series. The paintings, which were created between 1972 and 1974, reinterpret the traditional still life genre through his signature use of Ben-Day dots, bold black outlines and flat colour.

The Six Still Lifes prints, produced at Styria Studio in New York and published by Multiples, Inc. and Castelli Graphics, form the core of the Roy Lichtenstein Still Life print series. Executed in lithography and screenprint, the portfolio includes works such as Yellow Still LifeStill Life with Figurine and Still Life with Lobster, each representing a different variation on the genre define the scope of Roy Lichtenstein's still life prints.
