BACK TO: ROY LICHTENSTEIN PRINTS AND MULTIPLES
Roy Lichtenstein’s Peace Through Chemistry series, 1970, produced at Gemini G.E.L. and catalogued as Corlett 96 to 99, comprises four prints and a related bronze relief. Developed from a single collage drawing that Lichtenstein reworked across the edition, the series combines industrial imagery with his characteristic bold outlines and flat colour.
Lichtenstein described the image as a fusion of W.P.A. mural painting with elements of Cézanne, Grant Wood and American precisionism. The works reflect both optimism and irony, marking an important shift in his practice beyond comic strip imagery into more layered, conceptual themes.
