Roy Lichtenstein’s Two Nudes, 1994, is a relief print from his Nudes series, presenting an intimate interior scene with two female figures. One reclines on a bed wearing a teal headband, while the second leans toward her in a protective, comforting gesture. The seated figure is rendered entirely in red Ben-Day dots, her parted lips and graphic contours heightening the emotional tension of the composition. In the background, domestic details including a plant, blue vase and orange carpet anchor the scene within Lichtenstein’s stylised interior setting.

Printed on Rives BFK mould-made paper and issued in an edition of 40 with artist’s proofs and workshop impressions, Two Nudes measures 122.1 x 104.6 cm overall. Published and printed by Tyler Graphics Ltd., Mount Kisco, New York, under the supervision of Kenneth Tyler and his workshop team, the work exemplifies the scale, precision and layered production methods characteristic of Roy Lichtenstein’s 1990s print practice.
  • "I don't have big anxieties. I wish I did. I'd be much more interesting."

Roy Lichtenstein’s Nudes series represents a key phase of his late practice, combining comic-derived figuration with motifs from earlier series such as Interiors and Mirrors. Through flowing Ben-Day dots, bold contour lines and large-scale formats, the prints merge abstraction and representation while advancing his ongoing exploration of reproduction and surface. The series stands as one of the most technically refined and conceptually resolved bodies within his wider printmaking career.
