Roy Lichtenstein’s Nude with Blue Hair, State I is a relief print on Rives paper from the acclaimed Nudes series. The composition presents the female figure with deep blue hair set against vibrant red dot patterning, her teal eyes directed outward toward the viewer while one hand rests on her forehead. A black and yellow striped floor anchors the background, heightening the graphic contrast and reinforcing the structured geometry that defines Lichtenstein’s late print practice.

Issued in a rare edition of 10, alongside artist’s proofs and workshop impressions, State I differs from the standard Nude with Blue Hair through its intensified colour depth and emphasis on saturated blue contour lines. The heightened tonal focus gives the figure greater visual weight, drawing attention to the interplay between rigid line and flowing dot pattern.
  • "I like to pretend that my art has nothing to do with me."

    - Roy Lichtenstein
Roy Lichtenstein’s Nudes series, produced in the early 1990s, represents one of the most refined phases of his late printmaking practice. Drawing on romance comic imagery rather than live models, the works combine stylised female figures with flowing Ben-Day dot patterns and bold contour lines to create tension between geometry and volume. Produced in carefully controlled limited editions through Tyler Graphics, the series stands as a technically sophisticated and visually striking chapter within Lichtenstein’s broader body of prints.
