"Organised perception is what art is all about."
- Roy Lichtenstein
In Seascape, 1985, Roy Lichtenstein uses colour to guide the viewer’s interpretation of the landscape. Cool blues and greys suggest the sea and sky, while warmer peach and sandy tones at the bottom of the composition hint at a shoreline. Small accents of red, orange and green add contrast and movement, helping separate areas of land, water and atmosphere. Through these deliberate colour shifts, Lichtenstein allows viewers to read the abstract brushstrokes as a recognisable coastal scene.
