Between 1974 and 1976, Roy Lichtenstein produced the Entablature print series in collaboration with Tyler Graphics Ltd. Based on photographs of New York architectural ornament, these works translate classical mouldings into bold, graphic compositions defined by clean lines and industrial colour. Lichtenstein created preparatory collages for each print, reinforcing the relationship between architecture, reproduction and mechanical process.
The Roy Lichtenstein Entablature prints are distinguished by their technical complexity, incorporating embossing, debossing, foil stamping and layered printing methods to create depth and texture. Their precision and material innovation make them a significant body within his printmaking practice, and signed examples remain well regarded within the secondary market for post-war editions.
