In the early 1970s, Roy Lichtenstein examined the transition from representation to abstraction through his Bull series, one of his most conceptually structured print portfolios. Produced at Gemini G.E.L. between February and September 1973, the Bull Profile and Bull Head series trace the progressive simplification of the bull motif across multiple compositions. These works connect to earlier modernist explorations of form, including Picasso’s Bull lithographs, while firmly establishing the Roy Lichtenstein Bull prints as a key body within his printmaking practice.

The Bull Profile and Bull Head prints combine linecut, lithography and screenprint, demonstrating Lichtenstein’s technical precision across mixed-media editions. In 1989, the Bull Profile series was also reproduced on a limited edition of porcelain plates to support Artists to End Hunger, further expanding the reach of the imagery. Today, signed Roy Lichtenstein Bull prints remain among the most recognisable and sought-after works from his 1970s editions, valued for their structured progression and strong presence in the secondary market.
