Leeches is an artwork by Jean-Michel Basquiat, originally created in 1983 and issued in 2017 as a posthumous edition. Measuring 22 × 30 inches, the work exemplifies Basquiat’s highly recognisable visual language, combining forceful line, bold colour and symbolic imagery within a tightly layered composition. The title Leeches introduces themes often explored in Basquiat’s practice, including power, exploitation and social tension, reinforced through his expressive mark-making and use of text-based elements. This work is stamped, authenticated and signed by the Executor of the Estate of Jean-Michel Basquiat and was released in a limited edition of 50, contributing to its desirability within the contemporary print market.

  • " I don't think about art when I'm working. I try to think about life."

    - Jean-Michel Basquiat

Jean-Michel Basquiat emerged as one of the most influential figures of the late twentieth century, redefining the boundaries between street culture and the institutional art world. His work draws on a wide range of references, including art history, music, anatomy, politics and language, combining them into a visual vocabulary that is both raw and intellectually layered. Basquiat’s ability to fuse immediacy with complex cultural commentary has secured his position as a central figure in contemporary art history, and continues to drive strong collector interest across both unique works and editioned prints.
