PRICE HISTORY: AUCTION & PRIVATE SALES
Explore auction and private sale prices across Hockney's major series -
"What an artist is trying to do for people is bring them closer to something, because of course art is about sharing."
- David Hockney
Our David Hockney Price Database brings together auction results and known private sales across the artist’s major series, helping collectors understand how values have developed over time. By tracking individual works and comparable sales, the database provides greater context around pricing, demand and the differences in value between series, editions and individual images.
Private sale data is particularly important because auction results only show part of the market. Many significant Hockney works are bought and sold privately, meaning these transactions are rarely visible in traditional auction databases. By combining public auction records with our knowledge of private sales, we can provide a more complete picture of the market and a better indication of where works are actually trading.
