How Much are Hockney Taschen iPads worth in 2024?
The three Taschen iPad series, A Bigger Book, 220 for 2020 and My Window, have made up a significant chunk of Hockney's total revenue for his iPad series. Combined  the three series generated a total of $1,435,820 in auction revenue in 2023. This was a significant drop in total auction revenue from the previous years record year of $2,232,160. Compared to some of the other series, price of the Taschen iPad works have remained more stable relative to the initial primary release prices. With larger edition sizes but a smaller selection of designs, this stability in price may be down to the availability of perfect direct recent comparable sales. Like the other series, there also exists and active private selling market which is likely larger on an annual revenue basis than the public auction market. The three series act as a great alternative for collectors who wish to own an iPad but without the budgets for some of the other series.

  • "Prices for the Taschen iPad works remains relatively stable and act as a great alternative for collectors who are priced out of the Arrival of Spring and Yosemite markets"

David Hockney's Taschen iPad Works represents a significant evolution in the artist's already distinguished career, showcasing his embrace of modern technology as a new medium for artistic expression. Created entirely on an iPad, these works are a testament to Hockney's innovative spirit and his ability to adapt to contemporary tools while maintaining the essence of traditional artistry. The collection, published by Taschen, includes a wide array of subjects, from vibrant landscapes to intimate still lifes and everyday scenes, all rendered with the immediacy and flexibility that digital media provides. Hockney's iPad paintings are characterized by their bold, expressive use of color, fluid lines, and dynamic interplay of light and shadow. The touchscreen interface of the iPad allowed him to paint directly with his fingers, giving the works a tactile quality and a sense of spontaneity. This approach enabled Hockney to capture fleeting moments with a freshness and immediacy that might be more challenging with traditional media.

    A Bigger Book: Auction Sales

How much are 'A Bigger Book' iPads worth in 2024?
The A Bigger Book iPad series market development began slowly, with the first 4-years remaining relatively flat. As the art market rallied in 2021 during the covid pandemic, the series performance quickly picked up. During covid, when in-person viewings were usually not possible, the print market did exceptionally well as direct comparable results were available which gave collectors the confidence to buy without viewing. This meant that Hockney's iPads were incredibly well placed to perform well during the pandemic. The series has recently sold for between $27,940 and $44,755 which appears to be where the market has currently stabalised. Out of all of the Taschen iPad series, A Bigger Book is the series that we have experienced the most private sales demand.

    My Window Series: Auction Sales

How much are 'My Window' iPads worth in 2024?
After A Bigger Book, the My Window Taschen iPad series has proven the second most successful. During Covid the market rallied and has remained significant, generating $448,516 during 2023 which was a tough year for the art market overall. The secondary market is much larger than just the auction market with a bouyant private selling market. The prices of the My Window series have remained relatively stable with most collectors in our experience buying the works to enjoy, as opposed to being motivated by investment. Recent prices for the series range between $19,505 and $27,909. During the pandemic the works were heavily collected by South Korean clients. In recent years these same collectors have now become major exporters of the works as opposed to buyers.

    220 For 2020: Auction Revenue

How much are '220 for 2020' iPads worth in 2024?
The '220 for 2020' is the most recent Taschen iPad series to hit the market. Since it's release some works have come to market but it remains small with only $80,932 in total auction turnover during 2023. This is a market which has the potential to grow significantly in total size as very few of the series have come up for re-sale yet with a large body of work being owned by private collectors. Recent sale prices at auction for '220 for 2020' range between $22,517 and $26,530. So far, the series has not increased signficantly in prices versus it's original primary market release price.
