“When you go to an art gallery you are simply a tourist looking at the trophy cabinet of a few millionaires.”
– Banksy
First painted on the side of a sexual health clinic in central Bristol, Naked Man Hanging From Window quickly became one of Banksy’s most photographed works. The mural shows a naked figure clinging to a window ledge, caught in the middle of an apparent affair as a suited man searches above and a woman looks on in alarm. With its mix of slapstick humour and social satire, the piece captures Banksy’s talent for turning everyday walls into theatrical stages.Endorsed by Bristol City Council following a public vote, the mural marked a turning point in the city’s relationship with street art, shifting from criminalised graffiti to celebrated cultural asset. Though later defaced with blue paint, it remains a defining part of Bristol’s urban landscape and a touchstone for Banksy’s legacy in his hometown. -
