Unveiled in Banksy’s hometown of Bristol in 2006, Naked Man Hanging From Window, also known as Well Hung Lover, is one of the artist’s most widely recognised murals. Painted on the side of a sexual health clinic, the work depicts a naked man dangling from a windowsill while a suited man leans out of the window above, searching for him, as a woman peers anxiously over his shoulder. The scene plays with themes of infidelity, secrecy, and exposure, blending humour with social commentary in classic Banksy fashion.

The mural became a cultural landmark in Bristol and was the city’s first legal piece of street art, sanctioned by the council after a public vote. Despite being partially damaged by blue paint in a later act of vandalism, it remains one of Banksy’s most photographed works, symbolising both the artist’s rebellious wit and the city’s close connection to his career.
  • “When you go to an art gallery you are simply a tourist looking at the trophy cabinet of a few millionaires.”

    – Banksy

First painted on the side of a sexual health clinic in central Bristol, Naked Man Hanging From Window quickly became one of Banksy’s most photographed works. The mural shows a naked figure clinging to a window ledge, caught in the middle of an apparent affair as a suited man searches above and a woman looks on in alarm. With its mix of slapstick humour and social satire, the piece captures Banksy’s talent for turning everyday walls into theatrical stages.

Endorsed by Bristol City Council following a public vote, the mural marked a turning point in the city’s relationship with street art, shifting from criminalised graffiti to celebrated cultural asset. Though later defaced with blue paint, it remains a defining part of Bristol’s urban landscape and a touchstone for Banksy’s legacy in his hometown.
