Opened in March 2017, The Walled Off Hotel in Bethlehem is one of Banksy’s most ambitious and politically charged projects. Created in collaboration with other artists and academic Dr. David Grindon, the boutique hotel sits directly opposite a section of the Israeli West Bank Barrier, facing the contested site of Rachel’s Tomb. Originally intended as a temporary installation, it has since become a long-standing attraction, drawing close to 140,000 visitors. Blending immersive art with stark political commentary, the hotel confronts guests with the realities of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict while being ironically billed as having “the worst view of any hotel in the world.

The Walled Off Hotel, unveiled by Banksy in March 2017, merges art, activism, and hospitality in a way few projects ever have. Situated in Bethlehem, directly facing the Israeli West Bank Barrier, the hotel offers what has been called “the worst view in the world”, a deliberate statement on division, conflict, and the lives impacted by the Israeli-Palestinian situation. Created in collaboration with other artists and Dr. David Grindon, the space is filled with satirical art, provocative installations, and a curated museum that explores the history and reality of the region. By blending political commentary with a functioning hotel, Banksy turns an overnight stay into an unforgettable act of witness.
